“There is no thought without emotion, nor emotion without thought.”

Margarita Amestoy de Sánchez

Born in Altagracia de Orituco (Guárico state) on November 24, 1929, she died in Caracas in early April 2008. She studied Industrial Chemistry at the Rodolfo Arismendi Institute, and a year later she earned a degree in Secondary Education Teaching in Mathematics and Physics, which inspired me to pursue a postgraduate degree in Physics. From 1979 onwards she devoted herself to the study of cognitive sciences in her native Venezuela, first working for the Ministry of Education and then for the Ministry for the Development of Intelligence, led by Luis Alberto Machado, who, along with other great people, managed to venture into new projects.

Amestoy is widely recognized for her valuable contribution to the educational field through the creation of the Methodology of Thought Development. This approach focused on fostering critical, creative and reflective cognitive skills in students, promoting more autonomous and meaningful learning processes. Her work has deeply influenced the educational systems of Latin America, leaving an important legacy in pedagogical training and in the implementation of innovative teaching strategies.
